4 months ago, I was tapped to reverse the rot on a legacy software system that makes $30 billion/year.
3 months ago, I wrote the proposal.
2 months ago, I flew to India to pitch it to my peers.
1 month ago, I got buy-in from upper management.
1 day ago, I chopped up the first phase of the proposal into chunks for 3 engineering managers.
Today, like most days, I feel like quitting.
Because I don’t like being bothered.
Once a system is already valuable, like this legacy one, people have opinions. Many misguided ones. Listening to these opinions is draining as fuck.
I’d rather create something new than lord over something I inherited.
Like creating a healthcare cloud platform in Azure and Google. Facilitating developer productivity. Streamlining compliance.
Working efficiently so I can go home.
And enjoy.
I believe everything in life happens for a reason. Not because everything is predestined, but rather because it’s advantageous for me.
The tension of “this shouldn’t be happening to me” is too much.
Whenever I figure out what the reason for this is, you’ll be the first to to know.
For the last 4 months, I felt too overwhelmed to write to you.
But I’m back.
Happy that you’ll have me.
Thanks for reading,
Janahan
P.S. While I am often wrong, I’m mostly right. And I’m always Janahan. I changed the newsletter name to reflect that.

Hey, long time no see, Janahan!

Man, I love this mentality. I find it helps me make the most of my current situation. But, honestly, I still suck at it. 😅 I'll work on it, though.
Nice seeing you again!
