TTT 27: Ask For A Raise šŸ’°

This graffiti in my neighborhood that inspired the ā€œ888ā€ in my Twitter handle ā€œjanahan888ā€. It embodies a zest for life. A curious, engaged life.

Hi Team,
மாலை ą®µą®£ą®•ąÆą®•ą®®ąÆ (maalai vaNakkam), Buenas Noches, and Good Evening from New York City!

I’ll be sharing a thing I did, a tweet I loved, and a thought I had.

A Thing āœšŸ¾

I published an essay titled Ask For A Raise.

For the first 5 years of my career, I was not promoted once. In 2016, a leaked memo from Google completely changed the way I viewed work and compensation. Since then, I’ve increased my compensation 360% and been promoted 4x in 5 years.

I didn’t realize how much money I was leaving on the table.

I'd made $0 online—until last week. Now I've made my first $100. 100 bucks isn't much, but it's a blueprint for how to work smarter—not harder. Here's my 3 step process: (Quick 🧵)

I haven’t made a dollar online since 2016.

That year we shut down Quotail. I have only a limited amount of time with a high-functioning brain. Compounded with all the layoffs in the tech sector, the urgency to make internet money has never been higher.

I am in demand forĀ

  1. Negotiating Salary

  2. Climbing The Corporate Ladder

  3. Ensuring HIPAA Compliance For Software Systems

  4. Designing Highly Available, Geo-Redundant Software Systems

  5. Helping Engineers Write Effectively

Give this exercise a try. I bet there’s a ton of things you’re in demand for too. It’s always a good time start getting internet money.

The music has stopped playing and it’s time to grab a chair.

A Thought šŸ’

I have many self-limiting beliefs.

I thought I couldn’t have financial independence from my job. I thought that strangers didn’t want to talk to me. I thought that it was impossible to feel at ease while working hard.

I didn’t even realize I had these beliefs.Ā

And subconsciously, these beliefs were blocking me from achieving what I want in life. These negative, automatic thoughts were cementing my reality. Luckily my sister, Angeli, helped me see what I was blind to.

I believe I can receive more.

To live the life I want, I have to believe in myself first.

Many times the biggest changes in life start with a leap of faith.

I'd love to hear any feelings you felt while reading this and until next time - be easy.Ā

With Love,
Janahan

Good one..

after moving to India.. all seems to be up side down.. you think all these things work in Indian corporate culture.. maybe some exceptions..

mostly favouritism.. personal preference.. etc..

sometimes I get responses.. I tried my best .. but this is what we can do.. maybe next year..🐶
